Hi, welcome back! I am so happy to see so many familiar faces in my 1st grade classroom! Also, a big welcome
to our two new students. They are already proving to be a great asset to our 1st grade class of 2009-2010. I'm
looking forward to a fun and exciting year with my students. The class currently consists of 9 girls and 8 boys.
One of the first discussions we had as a class was how important it is that we consider others. We decided on the following
as rules to live by this year: 1. Be respectful.
2. Be responsible.
3. Be
a listener and use quiet voices. 4. Always walk inside.
5. LEARN and HAVE FUN as you TRY YOUR
BEST!
October finds us learning the word families for -it, -ig, -an, and -at as well as some common sight words such as and,
to, too, here, jump, have, the, a, who, we, on, not and go. Reading groups are going very well and the children have
been enjoying learning these words in context. In math, we have just finished addition of +0, +1, and +2. We are
starting subtraction with these same numbers. Our themes for this month are safety in the school, home and on the bus,
and Halloween and fall. Our party this year will center around the fall harvest and snack for the party will consist
of things that are harvested in the fall such as apples, corn, vegetables from the garden and baked goods that include ingredients
from the harvest. I will send out more information on this with the children at a later date.
